NEW CUISINART OWNER MAKES SUBSTANTIAL OFFER TO ANGUILLA

American billionaire, Mr. Richard M. “Dick” Schulze, the new owner of Resort and Residences by CuisinArt, has made a substantial financial offer for the health services of Anguilla.

This comes just about one month after Mr. Schulze, and Anguilla’s Premier and Minister of Finance and Health, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on December 16, 2020, for the purchase, by Mr. Schulze, of the CuisinArt five-star property on the south-west coast of the island.

It was at that signing ceremony that the American developer offered to provide community assistance to Anguilla, and said that he and Dr. Webster would be discussing some of the needs of the island.
Replying to a question from The Anguillian newspaper, during the Anguilla Government’s first press conference for 2021 on Monday, January 11, Dr. Webster stated in part:
“The sale of CuisinArt brought some money to the Treasury. We also got some agreements for social projects. One of the things that we [the Anguilla Government] insisted on is that any MOU we signed should have a social programme attached to it.

“As we went into the MOU, for the sale of CuisinArt, we got an offer that they [Mr. Schulze’s company] will commit 1.8 million US dollars to developing the health services…and will be providing for physicians coming in from the US to help with the provision of healthcare services.”

The Premier explained that, among other things, the money would be utilised to purchase an MRI scan machine and pay for medical training. It will also provide for the setting up of neigbourhood clinics for persons who cannot afford healthcare. He said Mr. Schulze had established a similar clinic in Naples, Florida, and would like to replicate it in Anguilla.

Dr. Webster stated that he was in consultation with Mr. Schulze regularly concerning the benefits of the agreement. He added that there were also talks with him about jet aircraft flying persons into Anguilla, from the United States, as another area of assistance to which Mr. Schulze is committed.
